Pyrenees (AUG 2005) - Ted Bowling Photography

The pictures in this gallery were taken over a five day period traveling through Huesca. Huesca is the most northern third of Aragon. Zaragoza is in the middle and Teruel is in the South. Most of these pictures were taken in the high Pyrenees. Many of the roads we treveled are only passible five months out of the year. Enjoy.

Ted Bowling Photography > Spain is experiencing a drought and the sunflowers are slumping in some places. They are grown for their seeds (pipas in Spanish) and their oil. They really do rotate their stems during the day to follow the sun.

Ted Bowling Photography > These windmills are helpless targets for ametuer photographers that want to feel artisitic. In this particular location, en route from Madrid to Zaragoza, their are at least 150. I question their utility.

Ted Bowling Photography > This picture was taken at dusk, approaching La Puebla de Hijar, the county seat of the Aragonese district where our summer house is located.

Ted Bowling Photography > Hector living large with his buddy, Jorge. Samper is full of characters so Hector is right at home. We spent the night there two days before the pueblo's ferias began.

Ted Bowling Photography > This picture was taken in the foothills of the Pyrenees. These are almond trees.

Ted Bowling Photography > The fortress of Luarre. Like most defensive structures in this area, it is almost 1000 years old. It has served as a fort and a monestary over the years.
